The Bavarian Genome Research Network was founded in 2004 by the Bavarian ministry of science, research and art. It was a major concern of minister Dr. Thomas Goppel to strengthen the Bavarian genome research enduringly. We are very pleased that the Bavarian government, also represented by the current minister Dr. Wolfgang Heubisch, promotes excellent research projects of BayGene thus offering the opportunity to regain internationally renowned researchers for Bavaria or to have them stay.
It was possible to win an internationally renowned expert in the sphere of biotechnologies as the scientific director of the Bavarian Genome Research Network – Prof. Dr. Horst Domedy. As a unifying figure of the Bavarian research landscape he fulfills the task of linking research in industry and academia. This constitutes the prerequisite of successful cooperation of individual research groups in this innovative network.
